Aims

The aim of this website is to be a meeting point on the internet for all things to do with the UK Clarion User Group, Clarion programmers and companies based in the UK and links to other relevant Clarion Websites.

Firstly what is Clarion? Well its a computer programming language that has evolved from the early MS DOS days to the Microsoft Windows platform. Its is also the name of the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and both the IDE and language are highly productive and flexible compared to all other languages and development tools!
To find out more about Clarion visit the website of the company behind The IDE, Clarion and Clarion.net, SoftVelocity Inc. www.SoftVelocity.com

The primary aim of the user group is to help its members. We meet up a few times a year for one or two days whenever there is a lot of news, info or training to do. The meetings agenda is set by members submitting topics they would like to see covered at the next meeting, before all members who wish to attend can vote on what will form the agenda.

Previous topics have largely been training based on relevant subjects that are current to our needs. At the time of writing Windows Vista has been released so training includes things like how to install software on Windows Vista properly, addressing issues with the User Account Control (UAC) with the help of SetupBuilder from Lindersoft and many more relevant things to do with Vista. We not only cover the basics of programming with Clarion for the many new members through newsletters and example programs, but also provide workshop sessions at the meeting for things like SQL databases, the add on technologies from SoftVelocity and 3rd party suppliers and other relevent subjects. The topics are aimed at all from basic to high level so that everyone comes away learning something new or often quite a lot. Unlike a lot of training courses where the agenda is set, we decide what we need to know and then get the training for it.

We were also the first clarion user group to have played host to Mr Bob Zaunere CEO of SoftVelocity who flew in from their Florida Headquarters to demonstrate Clarion 7 and Clarion.net at the fitting location of Cambridge University along with a few members of the team flying in from Europe to show support.

We have played host to 3rd party suppliers Capesoft www.CapeSoft.com who are the largest provider of a very wide range of programming utilities for Clarion, along with LinderSoft www.LinderSoft.com who are behind the No 1 Software Installer Solution called SetupBuilder, and have have constant support from the premier online publication Clarion Magazine www.ClarionMag.com where you can get the latest news, numerous training books and instant access to thousands of online articles.

We also help arrange for dedicated training sessions with the likes of CapeSoft and other 3rd party suppliers at Cambridge University with programmers flying in from all over the world to attend.

Best of all we also negotiate very generous member offers and special on the day discounts at the meetings for attendees, in all amounting to hundreds and thousands of pounds worth of savings.

The Clarion Community is also quite unique in that through various forums like News Groups, programmers can come together to get the best support they could possibly ask for on all manner of things. For example many programmers old and new to the Clarion language and IDE are able to post for FREE on the news groups. Questions covering any subject relevant to Clarion, others seek help for problems experienced with Windows platforms, SQL technologies, .net technologies and more. With some of the smartest programmers in the world who have already understood and harnessed the potential of Clarion to provide some of the best solutions for Governments, Business and Public, it would be fair to say this is probably the smartest gene pool of all the windows programming languages enabling many of its programmers to develop billion dollar enterprises and create some of the largest and fastest database applications around!

So if you fancy taking advantage of the many benefits being a member of the largest Clarion User Group brings, then Join Up Here and we all look forward to meeting you soon at the next meeting.
